The Russian variant of modeling of petroleum generation, migration and accumulation is substantiated, which gives the opportunity to forecast oil and gas potential and to make quantitative evaluation of oil and gas resources.
Until recently the main method of evaluation of potential hydrocarbon reserves was the method of comparative geological analysis of the estimated geological object with the same well-studied one. However, this method was not accurate. The creation of high-quality empirical models required when creating a new method the models of oil and gas formation in the catagenesis of rocks organic matter, quantitative models of oil and gas generation for the main genetic types of organic matter. The general quantitative model of generational-migrational and stratal hydrocarbon systems was created for the first time on the basis of calculated quantitative models of oil and gas generation. The issues of modeling and mapping of the processes of lateral and vertical migration and accumulation of hydrocarbons in reservoirs were solved. The developed methods of hydrocarbon formation modeling are useful for the purpose of petroleum potential prospects evaluation.
